What to Expect During Your Window Installation
Replacement Windows | Exterior & Interior Finishing
At Canopy Management, our goal is to keep your window project clear, organized, and low-stress. Window installation is a precise process that affects both the exterior and interior of your home. Knowing what to expect helps everything move smoothly.
Before Work Begins
Confirmation of Details
We’ll confirm window style, color/finish, glass options, grids/grilles (if applicable), and which windows are included. If anything has changed since measurement (new flooring, trim work, alarm sensors, etc.), let your project manager know.
Interior Preparation
Window work happens at the wall opening, so we recommend:
√ Clearing furniture and décor near each window (at least 3–5 feet if possible)
√ Removing curtains, blinds, and window treatments ahead of time
√ Taking down wall hangings near windows if they could be affected by vibration
√ Moving valuables or breakables off nearby shelves and surfaces
**If you have pets, please plan to keep them secured away from active work areas and open window openings.
Special Conditions
Please tell us in advance if you have custom window treatments you want protected or reinstalled a specific way, security sensors, cameras, or alarm wiring at windows, fragile plaster walls, older trim details, or historic materials, or any sentimental or fragile items near the work areas
During Installation
Expect Noise, Dust, and Disruption
Window installations are active job sites and involve cutting, fastening, and careful removal of existing materials. You can expect hammering and equipment noise, crew movement around the home, dust from old framing, trim removal, and insulation, packaging materials from new windows and components, and intermittent vibration.
We’ll do our best to contain dust and clean as we go, but some mess is normal during active work.
Openings and Safety
At times, individual window openings may be temporarily open during removal and replacement. For safety, please keep children and pets away from work areas, avoid walking directly under active windows, and please don’t enter work zones unless accompanied by a crew member.
Exterior Sealing and Weather Protection
We take steps to protect the home during installation. If weather changes unexpectedly, we may pause or adjust sequencing to keep the interior protected and ensure proper sealing.
After Installation
Final Checks
We will verify that each window:
√ Opens, closes, and locks properly
√ Has consistent reveals and sits correctly in the opening
√ Is sealed and finished per the scope
*Please note that caulk and foam may require cure time and some windows may feel slightly still at first as new seals break in.
Clean-Up
We’ll remove old materials and packaging and complete a jobsite cleanup. It’s still normal to find a small amount of dust afterward, especially in older homes or when trim work is involved.
Communication & Questions
Your project manager is your primary point of contact throughout the process. If you have questions, concerns, or notice anything unexpected, please speak with your project manager or call the office at any time. Clear communication is part of our process, and we encourage you to reach out.
Our Commitment to You
Window installation requires coordination, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. While construction can be disruptive for a short period of time, our goal is to keep the project organized, protect your property, and deliver work that looks and performs as it should.
We appreciate the trust you’ve placed in us and look forward to guiding your project through to completion.
